Margaret Brodie

Margaret Brodie was named Director of the Division of Health Care Services in June 2012 and was also appointed as the Alaska Medicaid Director in January 2013. The Division of Health Care Services is responsible for management of the Medicaid fiscal agent, provider and recipient services, all claims adjudication, the development and operation of the Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS), statewide Background Check Program as well as the licensing of all medical and residential facilities and homes statewide.

Margaret’s background with the Department of Health and Social Services spans decades beginning with the Division of Public Assistance, where she held various positions from 1990–2001. Margaret has been with Health Care Services since 2008 as a Supervisory Medical Assistance Administrator, Division Operations Manager, and Director. She has also worked for the Departments of Education & Early Development as an Administrative Manager and Natural Resources as the Chief of Grants and Administration.

Margaret has participated with the National Governor’s Association Super Utilizer Program for three years and continues to work on developing state-level capacity to improve health outcomes and reduce complex care costs. This past year she has also been working with the National Association of State Legislators on a Winnable Battles Initiative.  In addition, Margaret has also been working with the National Association of Medicaid Directors for the past five years on various Medicaid issues such as specialty drugs and new regulations impacting Medicaid programs nationwide. She just completed the HIV Affinity Group and is part of a team selected for a ZERO TO THREE grant that is intended to tackle infant and early childhood mental health challenges, and is on the National Clinton Foundation Task Force for Childhood Obesity.

She is a U.S. Air Force veteran, holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Trinity College in Vermont, and is a Certified Government Financial Manager and a Certified Medicaid Professional II.   She is an alum on the Medicaid Leadership Institute.
