Our Mission
Our mission is to challenge the status quo and engage with Alaska's community in new and meaningful ways. Together, we are committed to fostering growth, driving innovation, and creating opportunities for meaningful connections within Alaska's healthcare landscape.
Each member of our Board brings unique expertise, passion, and a shared vision for empowering Alaska's healthcare management community. We look forward to collaborating with our members to shape the future of healthcare in Alaska.
Board Responsibilities
A position on the Executive Board is a four (4) year term, serving one (1) year as Secretary, one (1) as Vice President, one (1) as President and one (1) as Immediate Past President. Each year at the Annual Business Meeting a new Secretary is voted in to join the board. Nominations are collected the three months before the Annual Business Meeting. All Executive Board members are to attend the monthly executive board meeting and monthly conference committee meetings. All Executive Board and Leadership members are encouraged to attend the monthly education and education committee meetings. Positions are held July 1st-June 30.
Position of President shall:
- preside at all meetings of the Executive Board
- be responsible of organizing and coordinating the AKMGMA Annual Conference
- prepare schedule and speaker slate for annual conference
- communicate to the membership all matters affecting the Association
- have check signing privileges for the Association.
Position of Vice President shall:
- work with and recruit exhibitors/vendors for the annual conference
- coordinate on a monthly basis with the Treasurer regarding monies received from vendors
- be the board liaison for the education committee and assist the Chairperson in finding speakers and sponsors for the monthly education meetings. If there is no Chairperson for the Education Committee, the Vice President will be responsible for obtaining speakers for monthly education meetings and coordinating the events
- have check signing privileges for the Association.
Position of the Secretary shall:
- maintain and update AKMGMA membership database, oversee membership invoicing and monitor renewals,
- verify receipts received for membership with the Treasurer
- record minutes for the monthly executive board meeting and annual membership business meetings and file appropriately
- check mail and distribute accordingly; make regular bank deposits of checks received. Deposits will be made NO LESS than on a monthly basis. Copies should be made of all deposited checks.
- be board liaison for the membership committee and assist the Chairperson in membership recruitment and reporting. Membership reports are to be provided for each monthly board meeting and at the annual membership business meeting. If there is no Chairperson for the Membership Committee, the Secretary will be responsible for membership recruitment and reporting.
Position of Immediate Past President shall:
- provide active assistant/guidance regarding duties to the Secretary, Vice President & President
- recruit new board members.
Position of Treasurer is a one (1) year position voted on by the membership at the Annual Business Meeting with the potential of one (1) reelection. Nominations are collected the three months before the Annual Business Meeting.
- maintain the AKMGMA financial records, tracking income and expenses for the organization. The Treasurer does not have check-writing authority.
- ensure that the proper IRS filings are completed each year.
- maintain the financial records through the end of June of the year they go out of office. In July the completed financial records will be transferred to the new Treasurer.
- coordinate with the Vice President regarding payments received from conference Sponsors and Vendors; and coordinate with the Secretary regarding the membership list and payments received for new and renewal membership dues.
- work with bookkeeper to post all expenditures as they are received from the President or Vice President (current check-writing authorities.)
- work with bookkeeper to maintain a file containing copies of deposited checks and expenditure backup.
- work with bookkeeper to present a financial summary to the executive board at the monthly meeting.
- work with bookkeeper to reconcile the bank statements each month. Ensure that all deposits made during the month have been recorded by the bank. Keep all bank statements and attachments in a file as backup.
- work with bookkeeper to summarize all financial data into an Annual; Treasurer’s Report at the time of the Annual AKMGMGA Conference, and forward the report to the President for distribution to the membership at the Annual Meeting.
Other Leadership Members are all volunteer positions that do not require membership voting. All Leadership Members are to attend the quarterly board meetings and monthly conference committee meetings. All Leadership members are encouraged to attend the monthly education and education committee meetings. Positions are held July 1st-June 30.:
ACMPE Forum Representative
The ACMPE Forum Representative is a volunteer position that serves as a liaison between AKMGMA and the MGMA’s American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE) to provide:
- communication, coordination and membership support for ACMPE activities within AKMGMA Community;
- support activities and a professional networking in AKMGMA Community for ACMPE development; and
- AKMGMA members with access to ACMPE resources to help enrich professional development opportunities.
Duties:
- Represent ACMPE at AKMGMA events and annual conference.
- Attend the ACMPE Forum representative meeting and luncheon held at the National MGMA Annual Conference.
- Promote ACMPE board certification and Fellowship. Distribute ACMPE membership packets to interested colleagues.
- Provide support to AKMGMA members working to achieve their ACMPE board certification or Fellowship.
- Conduct recognition activities for ACMPE members. Send congratulatory notes when ACMPE members from AKMGMA when advance from Nominee to Certified Member or from Certified Member to Fellow.
- Conduct other membership recruitment, retention and ACMPE advancement activities as appropriate.
Legislative Liaison
The Legislative Liaison is a volunteer position that shall represent the membership and the state in a professional, efficient and effective manner and attend all Board meetings as requested, participate actively in board affairs, and carry out all its functions as prescribed by the bylaws of the organization and resolutions of the Board.
Duties:
- Attend and represent AKMGMA at meetings pertaining to specific areas of commitment.
- Represent the association at forums within the state. Liaison may attend any other meetings that he/she feels is beneficial to the membership.
- Provide professional expertise and membership representation in commenting on legislative issues, regulatory proposals/amendments, and other issues affecting physician practices.
- Serve as a resource whereby AKMGMA members can alert AKMGMA to specific issues that are affecting physicians’ practices.
- Follow-up on problems and/or questions submitted from AKMGMA membership.
The Education Committee’s main focus is on educational content, but they have input on all aspects of event development including site locations and meeting dates. The committee strives for membership representing all areas of the state.
The Education Committee Chair is a volunteer position and is responsible for:
- Presiding over committee meetings that happen no less than quarterly.
- Reporting to the Executive Board regarding education initiatives, concerns, and events.
- Planning, promoting, and executing educational events, not to include annual conference.
The Membership Committee promotes AKMGMA activities and interests to members and seeks to recruit new AKMGMA members. Committee members have a visible presence at the education events including the annual conference. The committee strives for membership representing all areas of the state.
The Membership Committee Chair is a volunteer position and is responsible for:
- Presiding over committee meetings that happen no less than quarterly.
- Reporting to the Executive Board regarding membership initiatives, concerns, and events.
- Working with Secretary to recruit new members and retain existing members.
- Developing and promoting membership benefits.
- Planning and executing membership events.
